When a character refers to a group of girls as "chicks" another character tells him not to be sexist, despite the entire book reducing characters (male and female) to one dimensional stereotypes for their given gender. Reading it, it feels like an effort to engage topics of gender made by somebody who doesn't know what they're talking about. Maybe my expectations were a bit high, but this book was nothing but disappointing. I went in to this book thinking it was going to engage all kinds of important issues with gender, which was exciting, especially in a book aimed towards a younger audience.
